The woman watched out of the corner of her eye, as the tall man came back from what she assumed was the kitchen. He had a strange expression on his face and she wondered what interesting things had transpired in there. He looked at her. She quickly returned her gaze to the table top, but not without a crimson blush spreading all over her tired features. She had hoped that he had forgotten her. Though she had made such a fool of herself before that she was sure he hadn't. He had been so nice after that. She had figured out that he was the owner of this place. She hoped that he would forgive her for speaking out of turn. She had interrupted his conversation with his friends, but she was so hungry. What a fool she had been! She dared glance up at him again. He had rejoined his friends and was talking about something with them while gesturing at the kitchen. His gaze fell across her way and she stared intently at the table top once more. She wouldn't look his way again. Smells started drifting in from the kitchen door. Her mouth started to water. After the food she would pay and leave before she said anything else improper. Still staring at the table, she decided she should have been a carpenter with all the time she spent looking at woodwork. She supressed a smile. She stared at the table top.
