...would have incinerated or cremated the bodies but that's just guesswork on my part - I may well be very wrong. However, wasn't it very important that the body remain available to house the ka after death in order to perpetuate 'life'? How that affected the poorer people though is an interesting thought - staving off bodily decay through mummification would have been a costly concern so what did the poor have to resort to to ensure eternal life? Was it enough just to have the name written on a stela or a small figurative sculpture to represent the dead person?
