It was mid-morning when the weakness began to ebb away and his sight returned. Caesar had been lying down in a darkened room, but a distaste for his physical weakness had been growing. As he felt stronger, he rose and returned to his study and sat reading one of his favorite plays by Menander. The house seemed quiet - Calpurnia had gone to the garden where they were clearing up last night's storm damage.
His slave knocked softly and entered. "Decimus Brutus is here to conduct you to the Senate, Master."
He winced. What had seemed a good idea two hours ago, now raised the hackles on the back of his head. Caesar, ill! Caesar, ignoring the Senate!
Perhaps he should see Decimus, if only to test the wind.
