Calpurnia sighed. What could she say to convince him?
She shook her head.
"This is no good, Caesar. The auguries are always taken before a meeting, and you know you do not care what they say. This is not what I am asking you."
She became very serious.
"There are rumours of a conspiracy against you. Even the slaves have heard. They know nothing - but they talk.
Do this for me, my dear. Don't go. Tell them I am ill - tell them whatever you want. Just don't go to the Senate today."
