You were always the best in show,
attempting to outshine one and all,
with your perfect teeth, hair that went just so,
a young girl's nightmare who fooled them all.
I still remember that fateful day when you
arrived, the new girl, the one who smiled
and accepted my hand of friendship.
I always felt deep sympathy for the new ones,
so hard to come in mid-year,
when friendships had been formed,
bonds cemented with the blood of sisters,
so I took you under my wing,
bringing you into my group,
never suspecting the evil intent of that,
innocent smile, those bright blue eyes,
never seeing the blade you held.
When the blow came,
I was unprepared, stung to the quick,
I held back the bitter tears of betrayal,
only letting them fall when I was alone,
high in my tree wondering on your deceit.
Yes you were best in the show all those years ago.
