Bravo, AzureEyes, for saying what many Egyptians have been telling me in private!

I have heard, although distantly, that a power struggle so intense is going on in our most ancient and beautiful of cities, that many of the people who love Ancient History are intimidated and discouraged into demmed near abandoning AW altogether.

Frankly, I was puzzled, then deeply disturbed, by the fact that Egypt has not fielded ONE participant in the site-wide contest this weekend, nor responded with one single question on Egyptian history (I researched them myself!), which is in stark contrast to the excitement and major historical and "fun" contributions Egypt made to the Beta-Launch back in March. Back then, ya'll were leaders of this site and taught us all how it should be properly done.

Now, we're in the interesting position of having Egypt not even represented in a major site-wide activity. Whoever is trying to control Egypt, has nearly killed it, IMHO.

Now that groups are almost in the set-up stage, I fondly hope that the best of our Egyptian brethren will come back, set up a board which cannot be intimidated or touched, and begin to remember why we all loved AS, and why we came here - to exchange history and fun with like-minded friends who lighten our daily load and bring us the pleasure of sharing an arcane, wonderful subject with others of similar enjoyment.

Bravo, AzureEyes, for "After a time of watching the chips fall in one spot, I can't say that I am proud of AW Egypt... or my part in it (or lack thereof). A few of us have just been hanging around the bar, waiting for something, anything, to happen. I was awfully proud during the torch lighting. We were "one" then. Yes, we had our past rivalries to contend with, but then, it was not an issue. We were "home again". Soon after the opening ceremonies, the same old - same old started up again.

It will be hard to reinvent Egypt, but if there is anything at all I can do to help, as a Roman, please do ask! I do hope so - your contributions are much missed.
