Well, I've just heard about a planned film version of Beowulf, which will hopefully improve upon the sci-fi rock version by Christopher Lambert from 1999. This new film is set to be directed by Icelandic director Sturla Gunnarsson, and will star Scott Speedman as Beowulf. The screenplay has been written by Canadian Andrew Rai Berzins. It had originally been planned for release in 2003 and was set to be the most expensive Icelandic film ever, but production was stalled. Now it will be a Canadian/UK/Icelandic co-production. Sean Connery has reportedly been offered a supporting role.
In addition film-maker Roger Avary has declared that he would like to make Beowulf into the film and is said to have written a script with Neil Gaiman - they have described it as "Trainspotting in 4th century England". But as far as I know, no studio has taken it on yet.
