Very interesting musings, Nekh and Mirjam.
Should that falcon prove out to be Heru or a Heru-predecessor, it does not rule out the earliest rulers being but smaller "chieftans" in their area of influence. As Egypt consolidated, some of the best ideas may have been adapted, as the influence of more powerful "cheiftans" became merged with others. Thus, falcon Heru and perhaps the idea of the serekh itself could have grown from smaller antecedents.
A revisiting of Mirjam's comments in different form, I see.
The language and its development is something I need to study.
