Few leaders in
Japanese history are as difficult to gauge as Tokugawa Ieyasu.Japanese military leader and statesman,
founder of the Tokugawa dynasty of shoguns. Born Matsudaira, Tokugawa Ieyasu was the last of the three unifiers who put Japan together again after the Warring States Period Tokugawa Ieyasu founded the shogunate in Edo (now Tokyo) in 1603 that endured for 15 generations and over 260 years.
