A good post Huscarl Harald and some useful quotes from Morris to file away for future use. Just today, on another forum devoted to ancient Rome I came across a reference to the "suppression of science in the Dark Ages". Since the study of medieval science and technology is one of my interests, I asked the poster what she meant (she meant the old sectarian myth that the medieval Church burnt scientists at the stake) and if she could cite some evidence.
So she did. The problem was, all her evidence was from the Renaissance.
I've now asked her if she can cite any evidence from the Middle Ages; and I've given her a kindly lecture about how the term "Dark Ages" isn't really very accurate. ;>
Cheers,
Thiu
