This is one of the most known Castros from the territory now known as Portugal: Citânia de Briteiros. It has a priviledge situation, on the hills near the Atlantic and a river. Here you can see some pics, it's nice, I think, to be able to really "see" how things were build, organised, etc. This ancient Celtic city dates from 600 BC a nd includs the remnants of more than 150 stone huts and city streets. Local epigraphy shows us the Celtic names of some of its inhabitants. The North of Portugal and Galicia are one of the regions of Iberia where the Celtic peoples more strongly established themselves, together with Celtiberia in central Spain and Alentejo in Portugal.

From these Castros came the famous statues of bearded warriors with torcs around their necks. Golden torcs were also found. The other sculptures of possible Celtic origin are the more widespread statues of boars, whose precise meaning is also lost.
