And I am sure as their research continues, we will be seeing alot more perverted goat posts to come, but interesting stuff, nonetheless.
Thiu, you reconstruction of Alesia is great, too bad I can't understand what the Hell they are saying.(even when I hit the traslate button)
It is no wonder why Vercingetorix was dominated by Caesar..who would want to go out in that stuff? I believe that Verci was forced to hole up there at Alesia for so long that the people were forced to eat horse meat(which I am sure must be bad, although I have never eaten horsemeat, but I had an Anthropology professor who would say that tapeworm has more protein than peanut butter.)
Verci's biggest mistake was holeing up in the fort..without any war machines or seige engines to fight off the enemy Romans. It was Verci's incompitence, much like Varus' incompitence as he took his forces through the Teutrobeurges, that lead to his defeat.
If not for Caesars' genius, the Averni may have kept their independence, as that was all they were fighting for. While life was not bad, but better under Roman rule for the Celtic people, it was the fact that they were not able to achieve this on their own which made it so bad for the Celtic people. This was also a carryover from the conepts of Gaius Marius and his belief that all of Italy would be better under Roman rule than tribal rule.
All Caesar was doing was carrying through his concept of a Roman Empire.
