Sorry, I didn't explain clearly enough what I was looking into. I'm exploring the early use of the German troops within the Roman Empire, and felt that this can't be done without the comparison to the later use of the Varagians in the East. I know from some of my reading that germanic soldiers were extensively utilized on both sides of the Rhine by the End of the Western Empire.
