It is now the beginning of the eleventh month of the Aztec calender. So may I encourage every one no matter what province or quarter you live in within our city to observe Ochpanizitl with your Aztec brothers and sisters .
Ochpaniztli whose English translation means ''Sweeping'',was part of the ceremonial cycle that took place within the Aztec empire. The ceremony and rituals associated with it took place in the period between September 2nd -September 21nd each year. Ochpaniztli was dedicated to the following deities, Toci, Tlazolteotl, Teteoinnan ,Coatlicue, Cinteotl and Chicommecoatl.
Within this ceremonial cycle the following events occurred. The major harvest season began. A ceromony honoring the Earth Goddess was enacted . The Aztec populace swept, clean and repaired their homes and public buildings. The ripe corn diety was honored, seed was cast to the populace. In preparation for the coming war season, the ruler gave insignia to warriors. The ruler participated in dances. There were military ceremonies at the borders of traditional enermies in the Valley of Puebla. Aztec priests began an 80 day fast to culiminate in the Panquetzaliztli festivals November-December.
