There are heaps of books and movies dealing with the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest and Arminius and his Germanic and Roman opponents - fiction as well as non-fiction. Let's create a pool of recommendations what to read and what to watch and why - or why not! ...

As I mentioned in my journal, I gave an online talk on the weekend on the Varian Disaster for the Saepta Julia discussion group.

The talk seemed to go down well, though I will hasten to add that it definitely represented my take on the battle and its background and others (*waves to Ahtaswintha*) probably have other ideas.

Still, since I spent a large part of yesterday typing furiously and produced a large amount of (I think) generally useful material on the subject, I thought it would be useful to share it here. So I will now post a series of articles detailing the background to the story and my interpretation of the sequence of events during the battle. Hopefully these will be of some use and spark some discussion and debate here.
    Cheers,

    Thiu
