Cairetw,
would like to post an initial message
concerning the daemons faith in Sparta, begging from the two famous brothers
Kastor and Polythephki.
The
relationship of the Spartans with the gods Dioscuri, Kastor and Polythephki,
can be the stamp of the Sparta’s identity and with relationship of worship the
holy father; meaning the sons of Zeus. Their sister was Helen, wife of the
Homeric Spartan king Menelaous. We can say that the Dioscuri introduced the
morality and nobility of Spartans. Kastor and Polythephkis were the protectors
of the state.
On coins of
Laconia, one frequent symbol of the Dioscuri is a snaked-twined amphora. That
can be play the part of fertility-daimoneV. As J. Harrison stated: “the are not only, as
the coins shows them, lucida sidera but they are Gods of all manner of
increase; they can make rain, they cause the dew to fall.”
Except of
the above-mentioned way of imaging Dioscuri, in Laconia is known the symbol of
two on horses’ naked-youths. We can conclude that they had a close connection
with Goddess Artemis Orthia. In Her temple, south of Sparta, we found numerous
reliefs with images of horses.
Yours,
Nikolaos
Cleomenes
