Cairetw,
I would
like in brief to mention some elements of the Sparta’s or better Laconian
Alliance or as well know Peloponnesian Alliance. I believe that the current
post will be a good start of a debate in the future board’s discussion.
The
Lacedemonian “Laconia’s” Alliance was founded in the middle of the 6th
century. It was composed be the total number of the in Peloponnesian
city-states, except of the Argolis’ and of the Achaias’ cities, in addition of
numerous non-Peloponnesian states which were linked with coalition with Sparta.
The
military administration was in the hands of the Sparta itself, I believe you
can understand the reason. Although, the political leadership was in the hands
of many! That means that the polis-states of the alliance had equality in political
matters. Regardless of their strength all of them had one vote, but only Sparta
had the opportunity, because of her leadership in the alliance, to suggest
issues in the court. The alliance was organized under the notion of majority
vote and the collectible character of defence.
Can we see
a link to the today NATO system, or any other international organization for
collectible defence nowadays?
Yours,
Nikolaos
Cleomenes
