Cairetw,
We cannot
overlook the sense of morality that the Greeks linked with what we call politics.
The initial elusive terms Virtue-Prudence and Faith-Unity became sacral and
divine identities. The best government and polis as government’s result will be
the one that support the above-mentioned qualities.
In the
Spartiatic training (agwgh), prudence introduced an immense importance social character. The
future citizen must learn to control his/her desires, feelings and instincts.
The Spartan training had as a main goal the test of the self-control. This
prudence can be an element known and usable for every individual as a base of
his/her relationship with the other individuals, a good example, which purely
shows what is a political being (politiko on).
I was that
specific self-control, which can lead citizens away from the unscrupulousness
and stiffness of the “popular” man and the arrogant attitude of the
aristocrats.
Yours,
Nikolaos
