The
publications for the Messina’s region excavations begun by the Tomb of Kampo
Abias (Kampo Abias) by Chr.
Tsounta (AE. 1891, 184ff)
and the systematic excavations by the year 1895, which gave an important
result, the finding of the palace (anaktoro) of Pylos by C.W. Blegan before the WWI.
In 1915 Frederick
Versatus excavated the Temple of Apollo Corithou or Corinthou (Koruqou or Korinqou) at the North site of Logga between
Petalidou and Koronis (Bull. De la Societe des lettres de Lund 1928-29, 39 and F. Versakis, To ieron tou Korinqou
Apollwnos, AD 2, 1916, 65-118). At the north of
Triohilia “Trifilia” was
excavated the biggest and better protected agricultural settlement in the
Messina’s region, which was dated, the initial settlement, in between 2000 to
1600 years. Its acropolis was introduced as the Homeric Dorion (Il. B, 594).
In Agio
Phlorio “Agio Flwrio”
near the springs of river Pamison, north of Kalamata, Mr. Valmin find ruins of
a Doric temple of the archaic ages, dedicate to the God Pamiso “Pamiso”, (Etudes Topographiques sur la
Messenie Anciene, Lund 1930, and The Swedish Messenia Expedition, Lund 1938.)
At the
mountain Ramovouni (Ramobouni) in the north of its site and 3km north west from the acropolis of
Molthis was found and excavated agricultural settlements (Protohelladic-Ysterohelladic
III, G1) (Karagiorga, Excavation of the
Dorion’s region, AE 1972,
Chronica, 12-20). Another one was found in the same region nearby the village
Kopanaki “Kopanaki” in
1980 (Kaltsas, The archaic oikia in Kapanaki of Messenia, AE 1983, 207-237).
In the late
of 60s a scientific project be W.A. McDonald and G.R.Rapp begun, which was
published by the University of Minnesota in a numerous volumes. Before three
years (1990-2000) was the establishment and finishing process of the last
published excavations in the Messina’s region. They were also the years of the enterprise
of three epistemological programs for the area of Egliano (Egkliano).
