My duties are to give justice, control the strong, aid the weak, steward the land, and to defend the people against the covotous and violent who would take by force the fruit of other men's labors.

In my service I have priest and councillors, servants and the army. The priests hold the time; the councillors of the state hold the knowledge of men and interperet their moods unto me. The army and my servants put my judgments into practice.

Our land is a gift of the gods. When men have farmed the land, dug it, planted and watered it, other men by means of war try to steal the fruits. Some claim that the land is theirs, and try to disposses the tennants by force. For this reason we have an army, it is plain that where force rules, a nation only has right to the land it can hold. The army is our fence about the land, and like a fence needs to be kept in good repair. The best army is one which fights for what is its own, it's wives, it's children, it's goods,and it's gods. Thus the people of the land are the best army, but they must master the arts of war. For this reason all men need to and are made to handle the sword, the bow, the sling, or the spear, and must hold weapons and keep them in good repair.

You my dear have shown by your bravery and stealth a rare courage that I have need of now. Our city is besiged by an evil from without and within. I need eyes and ears in my service.
