According to the Times of London, Jerome Eisenberg, an expert on forged ancient art, says that the Phaistos disk was faked in 1908 by Luigi Pernier. Among other arguments, he cites the edges of the disk being too clean and that it appears to have been deliberately fired, which was not the case for Minoan tablets. Dr. Eisenbergi s calling for thermoluminescence tests to determine the age, but Greek authorities are refusing (in fact, they refuse to even open up the display case where the disk is being kept). The article was/will be printed in Minerva in more detail and Dr. Eisenberg will present his findings at the Society of Antiquaries conference in London this fall.
