It was relatively quickly that a fight broke out, but it certainly was not a let down. On the third lap, coming out of the first corner and continuing into the second, Lucius Junius Brutus' chariot team, the Fervens Rotae, decided to dash down to the inside, at almost the same time that one of Tiberius Gallus' teams, the Rutilius Gallina, decided to shift up in a blocking maneuver.
The two chariots skimmed together in a smooth, streaking motion for an instant too long. One wheel made contact with the other, and both rocketed into the air, as though they had both run over a speed bump. Indeed, many thought for a moment that a horse had collapsed and nearly upset the two teams.
As the competitors streaked into the straightaway, the crowd went crazy. This was no upset horse - this was combat! Whips cracked on either side, both drivers trying to inflict injury, or tangle the reins, of their counterpart. The two chariots remained locked together, the Rotae in command with its left wheel ahead of and within the reach of the Gallina's right wheel.
Seeing that he had the upper hand, the Rotae's charioteer dropped his whip and heaved on the reins, causing a precipitous dive to the inside - pushing the Gallina inexorably to the inside wall. With a cry of frustration, the Gallina's driver conceded defeat and hauled back on his reins, slowing himself and allowing the Rotae to gain the lead - for a time...

The Fervens Rotae and Rutilius Gallina were picked randomly for the jockeying. With a combat roll of 10 to 1, the Rotae won the temporary combat. As such, it will be awarded one point of fortune and ability at the end of the race.
