Well, Bairgawulf, it is good to know I am not alone in my feelings on this subject nor that I am "too sensitive". Thank you for highlighting the attitude taken even by contemporary historians as well, as that sheds some light on things.
I do NOT begrudge the Romans their awesome history -not a jot. BUT man it would really be great to know more about the ancient Germanians and Celts. I mean from their point of view or at least a less subjective one.
In the meantime, I will finish this book then move on, knowing at least I have learned something about these people. Even if I had wished for more.
