Pullo literally broke my heart when he betrayed Eirene with Gaia. (Seriously, I WAS a mess, and debated whether or not to watch the remaining episodes) you see, Pullo's my champion of this show and I expected he would treat Eirene better after pining for her so long. Anyhow, I can't quite forgive him for the "whipping" he gave Gaia, but I was quite pleased with his treatment of her in the end. (screaming to my girlfriend as we watched together, "Ahhh ha!! A PERFECT ending to that whore's peice o' s**t story!!")
I felt that Pullo's actions were 100% justified. Not only was Gaia his 'woman' but she was a slave (I don't think the show mentions whether or not Pullo ever freed her) Either way- she belonged to Pullo and she betrayed her master in the most horrific way. Any man of ancient Rome might have reacted the same way and would likely have been sympathized. (if nothing else Pullo DID end her suffering) And I couldn't have been happier to see her dumped in the Tiber- infront of the whole Aventine no less...
My hatred for Gaia aside; this scene magnified why I love this show so much. It was a perfect example of how our ethics today had no place in ancient times.
And poor Atia- at first I didn't understand where the show was going with this character but she quickly won me over. I can't re-watch these final episodes with out feeling pity for her... whether or not she deserves Servilia's curse.
