    Death in battle or in child bearing was the common lot till this past century of progress. Men had numerous wives because they often outlived them. Now it seems that the women out live the men. Even in the 21st century there are still places that are more like the stone age than modern.

    Because they did not vote does not mean that women had no power.

    The ancient Greeks did think of the female as demonic. Perhaps they were right.
