The Cedar Smokehouse of Chief Grande

The North West Coast of California, Oregon, Washington and parts of British Columbia and Vancouver Island, Canada is home to the First Nations, a confederation of 13 different language families and 13 “nations”. Known as the Coastal Salish this confederation forms a cultural range of closely related native groups with a variety of linguistically related forms of communication. Archeological experts believe the Coastal Salish peoples have inhabited the region for approximately 11,000 years.
