Villa Heraklia
Heraklia's when-in-Rome villa and wine cellar.
![]()
Rising above the valley in which was later built the Colosseum, the Esquiline was a fashionable residential district. At the southern-most cusp, the Oppius, Nero confiscated property to build his extravagant, mile-long Golden House - you can still see some of its remains. Later, Trajan (ever wanting popularity!) built Rome's most lavish baths on the crest of the Hill. I have several rooms in the Villa, which you are welcome to visit. If you want a guided tour, just ask my majo domo, Pyrex Hetairos (he's Macedonian, so ignore the funny hat). He'll be glad to find wine AND give you the tour.
