It is said that the lovely nymph, Nar, had fallen in love with a shepherd, Avens; but Jove to punish her transformed her into a river. The anguished Avens, distraught over the loss of his true love, threw himself off the Marmore cliff in order to be united with his beloved. That mortal jump continues for eternity.
