KV34
KV34 is the Eternal Resting Place of Men-Kheper-Re Djehutymose Khaemwaset.
Established are the Manifestations of Re Born of Djehuty, Beautiful of forms Mighty Bull, Arising in Thebes Enduring in Kingship like Re in Heaven Powerful of Strength, Holy of Diadems MenKheperRe Djehutymose III had a very famous step-mother - Hatshepsut. Probably she overshadowed him but still he made of himself a great pharaoh and he begun his reign at her side, as was usual to do in those times, in a co-regency situation. Both before and after her death Djehutymose conducted extensive military campaigns to secure the borders of Egypt and Upper Nubia. Because of a wrongly assumed measurement of the height of his mummy, he was called the Napoleon of Egypt, but that is now old knowledge and he is more known for having increased foreign contacts to Egypt and brought wealth from controlling the northern traderoutes and the Nubian goldmines. Of this wealth Djehutymose donated lavishly to Amun, the records of which are inscribed at Karnak. His most impressive and most wellknown building is the so called Festival Hall at Karnak. Its layout is unusual and opinions differ about its original use and purpose. What seems certain is that here was conducted very particular rituals which must have differed from the regular ones. Itīs ancient name by which Djehutymose used to call it was "Akh Menu" which means "Brilliant of Monuments". Sometimes you hear that Djehutymose must have "hated" his stepmother because he erased her name from monuments and the Kinglist. It has however been found that he didnīt start to do so until many years after he death. This begs the question - why did he not rush to it as soon as he was alone on the throne? |
