Egypt's Sepat of...
Upper: Lower Laurel
General Region

Saam-plants here summon us,
I am, your best one - I am Ta-she.
I belong here like this plot of ground
That I planted with flowers, and sweet-smelling herbs.
Sweet is its stream dug by your hand, refreshing in the north wind.
The lakeshore as the sun god moves west,
In the company of Pharaohs' Eagle Owl.

A lovely place to wander in, Your hand in my hand.
My body thrives; my heart exults at our walking together;
Hearing your voice is pomegranate wine,
I live by hearing it. Each smile you grace me with
Sustains me more than food and drink.
Here in Ta-she, the garden of Kemet.

For an indulgent sojourn... Welcome to Ta-she, the Lower Laurel!

Relaxing, rejuvenating and revitalizing, the lush greenery of Ta-she stretches along the placid shores of the tranquil lake She-resy. Here you are invited to explore, unwind and adapt to the gentle rhythm of this flowering bud on the stem on the Nile.

Awash with the culture and heritage from the dynasties of thousands of years and onto the Greco-Roman period, this quiet unspoiled haven was, from the time of the Middle Kingdom, the playground resort of the pharaohs. Here, the outside world quickly fades away. A gentle expanse of blues, turquoises and greens sharply contrasts granite, limestone and the bright whiteness of the desert sands surrounding the northwestern edges of the lake.

Your arrival is greeted by precious whispered breezes carried through the shelter of dom palms and willows; the heady perfume and infinite depths and colours of the chrysanthemums, chamomiles, cornflowers and bright red poppies. Listen for hypnotic songs and calls of the resident birds, the Whiskered Terns and Kemetian Nightjars... explore the temple complex of Sobek the crocodile god at our capital Shedyet where you can take part in feeding the crocodiles!

Marvel at the achievements of Amenemhat III Nimaatra and visit his monuments to Sobek and the goddess Renenutet, the nourishing cobra goddess of children, fertility and protection. Explore this Twelfth Dynasty pharaohs pyramid complex at Kahun with the workers village of Lahun, including the famed mysterious Labyrinth and the necropolis of nobles. Stop of at Ro-henty "The Mouth of the Lake" to visit the bustling town of Karanis where you will find beautifully wrought glass and pottery vessels and on the far side of Lake She-resy, take in the unusual temple of Amenemhat IV Maakherura at Soknopaiou Nesos and be awed by the magnificent Roman Golden Fortress of Nub-Sebhet. In the mood to party - then a visit to the vibrant town of Dionysias with its carnival like culture should have you comprehensively entertained and exhaustively sated. Whatever you do there, you’ll be bound to return home with a few lively stories regarding this cities nighttime atmosphere.

For the more mellow of heart, linger in Shedyet... watch the sun sink beyond the dunes, make an offering and listen for the hoot of the Pharaohs' Eagle Owl as he accompanies Ra's solar barque journeying into the west. Relax as the night unfolds or take a short chariot ride out along the canal for a jaunt along its paths and indulge in the bliss of persea wines from our famed and exclusive regional vineyards.

Here in Ta-she and on the shores of She-resy, you will find an unhurried pace combined with natural beauty and tranquillity for...

Its fields are full of good things
and it has provision for every day
Its granaries overflow, they reach the sky
Its ponds are full of fishes and its lake of birds
Its fields are green with grains and its banks bear dates
He who lives here is happy
And the poor man here is like the great elsewhere.
