House of Akhenaten
Heri-tep a'a:
Position is currently vacant
Residence of the extended Royal Family, their entourage, nurses, medical staff and servants. The grand palace itself includes a small temple to the Aten, with an open courtyard to receive the sun's rays.
![]() This period in Egyptian history is commonly referred to as the Amarna period, named after the modern location of Akhet-Aten; Tel El-Amarna. During many seasons since it's discovery in the 19th century, excavations have led us to understand this briefly occupied capital city. The layout of the royal palace is immense and detailed and includes it's own royal barge landing and Nile access point. It's private temple to the Aten once served as the only temple in Akhet-Aten until the great temple was completed, when the smaller one was incorporated into the royal grounds. Key figures of the 18th dynasty we might expect to occupy our House of Akhenaten:
