Halicarnassus's District of
Zephyrion
Archon:
Position is currently vacant
The Greek district
In the years following the Trojan War, the Greeks came and settled on what was then an island just off the coast. According to legend they came from Troezen and were led by Anthes, a son of Poseidon. In time, they connected the island to the mainland by a causeway and settled there as well. Although the original settlers were Doric Greeks and retained some Doric traditions, they used the Ionian dialect for all public and private business. The most important buildings in Zephyrion are the temple of Apollo and the palace of Mausolus, both of which can be found on the former island.
