The temple and educational district in southwestern Chengdu The Qingyang district of Chengdu is an elongated area to the south and west of the central imperial district of Chengdu. This area takes its name from the QingYang Gong, a Taoist temple built during the Eastern Han dynasty. Variously called the Green Ram or Grey Sheep Temple, this is a square building with a round dome, illustrating the Chinese belief that "the sky is round and the earth is square". There are eight pillars within which symbolize the eight trigrams. If you move into Qingyang, you will want to join those who regularly visit this temple to burn incense, light candles and meditate. There is a teahouse attached to this temple where you can meet your friends for a game of Mah Jongg, or you can visit one of the temple seers in search of the answers to your problems.
If you are of the Buddhist persuasion, you will want to visit the Xinxinang Temple, renowned for its collections of art and calligraphy and the beautiful gardens which surround it. There are many other gardens in this section of Chengdu, most of them associated with temples, where you can spend some time wandering in the quiet green spaces to relax from the bustle of the city. If you are a student, you will be able to further your education in Qingyang. The first effort at public education in China took place in Chengdu when Wen Weng established schools in 141 BCE, which by the Southern Song Dynasty, had grown into a college enrolling 1000 students. You might want to open a printing house in Qingyang. There is always the need for a new and improved almanac, though you will have plenty of competition since woodblock printing was perfected here during the Song dynasty. Perhaps you could undertake to manufacture hemp paper. If your paper is of the highest quality, you will be able to secure a contract from the government for your product's use in official documents and library texts.
