Philae's District of
Whyt of Philae
This district, the Whyt (village) of Philae, is located on the eastern shore, opposite the Temple Island. Nowadays there is a Nubian village here, so there probably existed a settlement in ancient times too.

Itīs a teeming village, with all sorts of people, artisans who work on the temple, merchants, fishermen, potters, nobles spending their winters here, away from the chilly winter winds at MenNefer or Waset, and of course all the priesthood who serve in the Temple of Aset/Isis.
In the ancient days, here was an important trade station, where goods entered and left Egypt to and from Nubia. Spices, exotic animals, and not the least -gold. Nubia, or Kush as it was called by the ancients, was the gold reserve of Egypt.
