Kingdom of Burgundy's District of
Lugdunum
District Leader:
Lyon, Lugdunum, Roman Gaul
Lugdunum, known in modern times as Lyon, France, was established by the Romans in 43 BC. It was the Gallic capital of the Roman province Lugdunesis. The Roman emperors Claudius and Caracalla were both born there. In 197, the Battle of Lugdunum changed the political power and position of Lugdunum in that it was no longer the Capital of Gaul and the population shifted to other areas in the region. Lugdunum later became the primary city of the Burgundian Kingdom. Reference:
Wikipedia ![]() The Vandals made their first mark on history during the year 406 when they (along with other tribes) crossed the Rhine and attacked Roman Gaul. After three years of plunder they crossed the Pyrennes, entered and settled in Spain. Of the Vandals there were two tribal groups known as the Silingi and the Hasdingi and it was the Silingi that occupied Silesia (Magna Germania according to Tacitus). It was the Hasdingi that first attacked the Romans in the lower Danube area around the second century AD. But having made peace around 271AD, they then settled around western Dacia and Pannonia. Then around the time of Constantine the great, there were conflicts with the Goths. The Vandals advanced west from Pannonia in 406. They moved along the Danube without much difficulty, but when they reached the Rhine, there was a bloody battle with the Franks - Godigisel, King of the Hasdingi, along with 20,000 Vandals died in the resulting battle. By joining forces with the Alans, they did, eventually manage to defeat the Franks. In 406 they crossed the frozen Rhine and, under Godigisel's son, Gunderic, the proceed to plunder through to Aquitaine. Howdy there, tourist people! I'm Huneric, the Red-Necked Vandal!
