Uruk's District of
The White Temple
Steward:

The White Temple was built in around the fourth millenium BC and dedicated to the Heavenly God An (Anu), father of all the gods. It was located on a ziggurat rising 12 metres above ground and plastered with white so it would be visible from far away. In the centre was a long room bordered on each side with smaller rooms. The entrance wold have been from the south-west. It was situated not far from the E-anna and it seems that there was no competition between the two temples. It has been suggested that the city of Uruk was once two smaller settlements: Kulaba, with the Temple of An and E-anna with the Temple of Inanna, and that they may have formed two different districts of the city. Enmerkar is reported in the Sumerian King List as the builder of Unug (Uruk) and he may have been the one who united the two settlements into one city.
