Welcome Long Walkers!

The Gorgeous Capital of Toltecs!

At the moment, 10th century AD, Tula is the largest city in the Valley of Mexico, with more than 30,000 inhabitants. The city covers 5 square miles (more than 12 km²) so there's always room for more people, so why don't you just move in! (check our local listings for available properties). The founder of our city Topiltzin Ce Acatl Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent, started the building years ago and we welcome you to join our forces to build it even more glorious!

Our city is also known as Tollan and we, the people, are called the Toltecs, which comes from the Nahuatl word 'toltecatl' meaning the "Wise one, Science man, Knowledgeable". We were nomads, wanderers, originating from the Chichimecas, but now that we're settled down, we're ready to build and then maybe wander some more and conquer the whole of Mesoamerica? Some people have had visions that the city will be destroyed in 1179 AD, by our ancestors, the Chichimecas, or possibly by a huge fire, but those kind of visions are most likely caused by drinking too much pulque, also known as octli, the fermented drink made from Agave plant.

Arts and Achitecture

Interested in arts and achitecture? Then you're really in for a treat. The two largest clusters of grand ceremonial architecture are nicknamed "Tula Grande" (the most visited by tourists) and "Tula Chico". Other gorgeous structures, eg. terraced pyramids and colonnaded buildings with relief sculptures, including the characteristic reclining chacmools, extend for some distance in all directions. The city is also known by the great stone warrior figures known as Atlantes on top of the pyramid "B". The residential area streets are laid out in a grid pattern.

Sports and Entertainment

For those who enjoy watching games, there are two large courts for playing the Mesoamerican ballgame, which some call Ullamalitztli - known also as the Mayan Pokatok/Pokolpok/Pitz - played at a Tlachtli court.

Enjoy swimming and other watersports? The site is at and around the junction of the Río Rosas and the Río Tula.

Or if you like hiking, you can join one of the professional Tlachtli teams (Eagles, Jaguars and Coyotes), who tour all over Mesoamerica. Long marches, free food, and spectacular scenery, and whether you win or lose, you get to see interesting local ceremonial sacrifices. If you win, you can tell your neigbour and make him jealous. If you lose, err... did we already mention, that it's all free!?

Tula is open for visiting tourists, and we will also have a small museum store.
