Ancient Greece Travel Journal: Delphi and Nauplion Posted at 21:00 EST
Goodness, I am juggling too many balls in the air again. Surgery went stunningly well, and I spent a month happily buried in writing and a few other projects before visiting my folks in the frigid reaches of Thrace. (Well, Utah, but there were four feet of snow on the ground.)

Now I am back and slowly catching up to speed on a number of projects, including househunting. However, none of these things are of interest to you, my fellow Hellenes!

What IS of interest to you is that I have completed my travel journal chapter on my visit to Delphi and Mt. Parnassos. You may browse my notes, anecdotes, and photographs here:
Ancient Greece Odyssey Part IV: Delphi, Sanctuary of Apollo

I am now working on the next phase of my journey, Ancient Greece Odyssey Part V: Mycenae, Tiryns and Nauplion. So far I have shared images and diary entries of the journey from Delphi to the medieval city of Nauplion, passing by the Isthmus of Corinth, old Corinth, and the headwaters of the Styx (alas, no pictures of the Styx).

Now I am working on gathering my notes and photos about Mycenae and Tiryns, and will be posting them next. Stay tuned!

Bad Copyist, no biscuit Posted at 05:00 EST
Drat. I was going to be all artsy and sing my old alma mater's Hymn to Sophia at the Temple of Wisdom. So I made a (bad) recording and uploaded it and posted.

But I was lazy and copied the Greek from a Bryn Mawr songbook uploaded to the net. I forgot to CHECK their Greek transliteration. There's a few howlers.

met eute laiar = met euteleia
kallist on = kalliston (obviously)

There's probably a few other glitches as well. Whoops.

At least it's not as bad as what often happens to the Bryn Mawr hymn to Athena... the first line celebrates "Mathematos," learning, but for the last 15 years classics majors have been entertained by the majority of students pronouncing it "mathe mastos" which comes out roughly to "[We praise you, Athena] on account of your narrow breasts."

A Trip to Epidauros.... Posted at 23:00 EST
Note: I must avail myself of the services of Asklepios in a few days. The ritual is called myomectomy, and it may be a week or so before I can post again. On the other hand, browsing scrolls here may take my mind off discomfort.
Back Again After Years Away Posted at 04:00 EST

I doubt anyone remembers me since I was not very active on AncientSites, but I finally found one of my two old usernames, Hiril Nebet (how very generic: "Lady Lady"). I've switched her to Hellas now.

Yes, mea culpa, I had two, but that's because I can't remember the password of dear old Sothis_Mutemwiya. She was connected to my 1994 index of Egypt-related websites, now an artifact of a bygone age. Most links are now broken, and I gave up keeping it up-to-date after the Guardians' Egypt came on the scene.

As I mentioned on my front page, I'm transcribing my travel diary of my 2005 trek across Greece, with many beautiful photos and tidbits. I'll try to note here when I've added new chunks to it, as I'm squeezing it in between other projects (such as a massive surgery coming up next week, and after that, beginning research for my dissertation).

And yes, I've adapted some of my photos into graphics for T-shirts, mugs, blank cards, and other goodies which I'm selling through Cafepress. Click here to browse them:
