Am Writing Questions Already ... Posted at 20:00 EST
... for the 2008 edition of CEorN, as it will start on 1 Dec and run 'til the start of Saturnalia, whenever that will be. Since I expect there to be more than just 10 questions, starting early lets me double-check everything with at least one other person 'round here (it's easier that way).

Whew! Posted at 01:00 EST
Rough doing these things -- and getting my scanner to work at the last minute wasn't helping matters. HP has their own routine and it works nicely. Photoshop Elements' import function simply runs the HP program inside the main edit window, loading the scanned image as a locked background image. Double click the image in the Layers box, change it's name to the default suggestion (layer 0), and voila! I can crop out unnecessary stuff (like surrounding text from the book I scanned).

Another difficulty came when posting the quiz. Bizarre habit of IE7 is to assume too much when multiple tabs are open in the same window. I needed to open another tab by right-clicking whilst atop a URL. Instead of opening a tab for the new page, IE7 took the tab I was editing the quiz in for that, wiping out a few minutes of editing. (I had three tabs open at the time; left to right they were "edit the quiz", "balbas image gallery", and "a Google search". I wanted a new tab for something I found on Google without moving away from Google.)

Now I can do somethinzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... oh what? Ah! Else! I can do something else!

G'nite!

Second Quiz Update Posted at 17:15 EST
NO graphical questions this time -- maybe next year.

Been working hard to get the text-based questions creatively written, tossing in a few fake history items along the way, and didn't develop the graphic ones to my liking (the way I thought I could).

Wait a minute... (late afternoon thought).

I found a good candidate and will put a graphical question in.

First Quiz Update Posted at 02:00 EST
Dates are 17 Dec through 26 Dec, as the questions are rather cruel creative and will take time to figure. (Especially this year because of the graphical questions.)

2nd Annual Consul, Emperor, or Not - 2007 Posted at 20:00 EST
Same plaques, don't know the dates yet, and a different format for the quiz this year. Inspired by the graphical quiz of Livia Servillius for Goldfest 07, I will have something a bit more difficult than last time.

As before, it's not about speed. Whoever has the correct answers after the quiz deadline will receive a prize.

When the contest does start, this is where you'll find it (same place as last time).

After the Grading Posted at 18:00 EST
Lodes of fun that was, as I discovered a really great reason to turn my Grams off in the comm-Panel.

Since the quiz wasn't "whoever is first with the answer, wins" as too many quizzes around here are, I waited several days until all of 'em were in. Whoever had the highest would be first, whoever had ... & etc.

So... the answers were checked; many had long explanations as how they reached their conclusions. I set up a MS Word document with names followed by quiz numbers and their answers, then looked at the actual answers and re-coloring their wrong ones in red. Tallying up the red marks, I had my winners.

And no one got a perfect grade.

"Io, Io, It's Off to Quizzing I Go ... Posted at 12:00 EST
... though very few have done it so, Io, Io."

So the seven dwarves sang in Ancient Roma, lamenting the lack of entry submissions. Then again, it's the middle of Chanukah, and Christmas is nearly here, and Kwanzaa begins the day after that; with celebrations all around us, parties to attend, and shopping that will give a sparkle of pain to a manager's eye when gifts received are returned for a unprofitable refund, not many have the time to research quiz answers.

I'm not being critical. It's just an observation. And why I extended the deadline to Boxing Day.

Consul, Emperor, or Not - Saturnalia '06 - Before Posted at 17:00 EST
It's a bit more than a week before showtime and I have most of my questions written, only I have to massage 'em to read humorously.

And humor isn't as easy as pie: it takes much effort.

Example: if one of the questions were, "Morrie Caesar hated to walk the Aventine every Woden's Day" people wouldn't recognize the statement is false because no one named Morrie ever appeared in Suetonius, or that Woden's Day hadn't been invented yet, but because Morrie wouldn't be caught dead on the Aventine as his standards were quite high.

So, creating quality humor will take a week in order to throw you all off to the real truth.
