Movie Mayhem

I love movies, almost as much as I love reading. Now, I cannot account for my taste, it runs all over the board, I love stupid crap, deep stuff, love stories, chick flicks and dick flicks and so much more. I can't promise you will find a new release here but, you'll find something! On Thanksgiving day my oldest sister gave me a gift box full of goodies for my birthday in it were two movies that I had never seen, one I wanted to see and the other I never heard of, hubby and I watched them last night and here's my review of both.
The Wedding Crashers
I am a huge fan of Owen Wilson, I don't know what it is about him but I can't help myself, his humor can be subtle which I really enjoy and other times it's just out there, so when this movie came out I wanted to see it just because Owen was in it. I was in for a big surprise because Owen played the straight man in this movie and not the jokester, it was Vince Vaughn the giant sexy beast who had me howling with laughter, goodness he was funny!! I enjoyed the movie so did my husband, although my little sister told me today if it weren't for Vince she wouldn't have finished watching it. It must be the kind of movie you either like it or you don't! I for one, found it a lot of fun :-)
Little Miss Sunshine
I had never heard of this movie and if I did, I don't remember but I have not enjoyed a movie this much in a very long time! The plot center's around a seven year old girl who longs to be a beauty queen and idolizes Miss America, and the dysfunctional family's journey to get to her to California on last minute notice to the Little Miss Sunshine competition.
The cast is excellent including Alan Arkan and Greg Kinnear.
Grandpa is a heroine junkie who got kicked out of his retirement home for his bad behavior and is also Olive's "coach" for her routines, her father is a wannabe motivational speaker who can be anal at times but loves his daughter, her older brother has taken a vow of silence, her uncle is a suicidal, homosexual academic, and her mother is over stressed by the family in general.
Their journey from New Mexico to California is full of tender moments, tough times and seeing your own family in theirs. It's full of laughs and comedic and sometimes sad surprises. It is well written, well acted and well told, you cannot walk away from one of the characters and not love them.
And Olive's dance routine at the pageant.....well you watch it and let me know what you think!
Hubby enjoyed it as much as I did which surprised me, I think it's worth buying and is probably one of my three favorite movies of all times.

Talladega Nights And More Posted at 00:00 EST
Will Ferrell was a complete idiot! If you love stupid humor, subtle humor, you will love the movie, I did. There were parts where I thought were pointless, but I still had fun. Will is funny even when he is stupid.

Pirates aka Dead Man's Chest

If you loved the first Pirates of the Carribean movie, then you should enjoy this new one! There are times where they stretch things a bit too thin, but, I still laughed while I fought off a yawn. The special effects are great, the script could offer a bit more, but, in the end, Dead Man's Chest was worth my money and I enjoyed myself. Johnny Depp was hilarious as usual, he is brilliant as Jack Sparrow, without him, I don't think the movie would fly. Orlando and Kiera left me lacking. If you see it, enjoy and let me know your thoughts!

Riding In Cars With Boys
My daughter saw this at the movies and rented the DVD and insisted I see it, and I'm glad she did! This is a sweet yet painful true story starring Drew Barrymore. It's all about the fall out of a young teenaged girl in the 1960's who wants nothing more than to go to college, instead she ends up pregnant, getting married, and sacrificing all of her dreams. It is a beautiful tale of the unexpected twists that life takes and how we deal with them. It is full of humor, heartbreak, hope and reflection. It made me laugh, cry, and hope.

300
This movie left me wanting, it did not live up to it's hype, it tried to offer substance but fell short of the mark, but, at least I wasn't bored. I found myself scanning history in my brain, but my Greek history is slim at best. The historical accuracy is not what bothered me the most, I was thinking of that to figure out how it would end, what bugged me most was they went overboard on their artistic lisence and imagination, and I hated the slow mo fight scenes it was like revisiting the Matrix, without the impact. (Hubby loved the slow motion scenes, lol). The one good thing I Did enjoy was the really ripped bodies of the soldiers, lol.
I think it is worth renting but not worth buying. (which we did ;)
