In Memory of Officer Lee Newbill

On Saturday evening officers with the Moscow Police Department and deputies with the Latah County Sheriff’s Office responded to the County Courthouse in reference to a report of shots being fired. Information given at the time indicated someone was shooting into the sheriff’s office from the northeast parking lot.
As Moscow Officers Bill Shields and Lee Newbill arrived at the intersection of 5th and Adams, they came under fire at 11:35 pm. Officer Lee Newbill received multiple gun shot wounds and collapsed. Deputies and officers set up a perimeter, activated a quick response team and evacuated Officer Newbill just after midnight. Deputy Brannon Jordan who had participated in the response stayed at 5th and Adams after the evacuation and came under fire at 00:09 am, being struck multiple times. Officer Newbill succumbed to his injuries
