My principal interest here is the history of Narbonne, in modern day France. It was the hub of the Roman province, and it is the home of a fabulous ancient non-denominational crypt... The inhabitants managed to coast through the bubonic plague in the middle ages, probably because a plague in the second century cleaned out all those susceptible. Narbonne also boasts the largest lapidary museum and underground Roman storage vault outside of Rome, complete with abundant bull icons and a portrait of a man "bathing" with bears... during the gladiator games.
