Dusk had set on the Nile and Jdj Amenhotep Physician in Egypt was on his way to the city of Alexandria. As Jdj walked along the cool bank of the Nile, he realized the Camel he had employed to carry his belongings was tugging against his lead. He walked a bit further until he spotted a date palm where he tied the Camel leaving enough slack in the reins to allow the Camel to quench his thirst.
Having watered his Camel Jdj plodded on. He knocked the mud from his sandals and took comfort in feeling the cool wet earth beneath his feet. Speaking to his Camel in a kind but commanding voice, he said "Come along my friend the road to Alexandria is long, and we must make good on our journey in the coolness of the night".
As the dawn approached Jdj came to an Oasis, it was here he decided to stop and fill his pouch with the clear cool water found at the Oasis. As Jdj surveyed the surrounding dessert, he noticed in the shadow of the Oasis a figure lying in a heap on the ground, just short of the Oasis.....
Jdj tied his camel to the rushes...and walked towards the body... He noticed the figure of a woman who had been injured. Her body was bruised and battered, blood was coming from her left ear and Adorning her face was the most beautiful black hair, and she was nearly naked, her rainments tattered and torn, Jdj covered her body. Jdj tried to rouse the woman by gently shaking her, as she was nearly unconscious.
"What peril has befallen you, and what is your name pretty one"? The woman spoke and said, "my name is Shadea` I am a sorceress banished from the house of my master, and loser in a battle of magic and spellcasting against my masters new sorcerer. I was winning, and the last thing I remember was being engulphed by a fireball aimed at my head." "I also remember being thrown over a Camel and being led to the front gate of the palace by a slave who slapped the Camel to hasten my departure from the house of my master." "Please help me to sit up so I can breathe easier. My chest and ribs have been broken". Noteing there was nothing to prop Shadea` up on Jdj looked at his Camel and remembered he had brought along the gold laden wheel of His Nomarchs chariot,which he had taken to be repaired. He wrapped the wheel in the Blanket from his Camels back and placed it under Shadea`. He also pulled from his waist his sack of ointments and salves and applied them to Shadea`s wounds. She lay upon the ground looking precariously fragile as her lifeforce slowly ebbed away. Jdj looked around, thinking to himself if only I had some straw I could start a fire to keep Shadea` warm, and pad the ground where she lay. Jdj surveyed the Oasis and gathered up all of the dead palm leaves., from these he built a roaring fire..and pondered what he could do to help this poor creature of misfortune..
Jdj remembered something!!!!!! He did have something that might help Shadea`. It was a green pill, given to him by one of the "Magi". It was a gift for services to the "Master of the Magi". Jdj was told by the Magi that in his service as a Physician, he could use the pill only as a gift to another to restore health, or life preventing Osiris, from acquiring a soul too young, too soon. Jdj ran to Shadea` told her to open her mouth and swallow the pill.......
Shadea` took the pill into her mouth and as she tried to swallow, she began to choke....Jdj ran over to his pouch of water and squeezed into her mouth tiny amounts water to help Shadea` swallow the pill.....Shadea` swallowed hard, and what happened next astounded Jdj.
Shadea`s body rose from the ground her wounds healed before Jdj`s eyes and the ragged rainments she wore renewed themselves. Her rainments now purple shiny and beautiful made her look like a beautiful goddess. The beautiful black hair was now gone, and in its place was a shiny bald head...The shadow of Amun Ra engulphed her, and in her hand twirling in midair were four star shaped Amulets. Jdj was mesmerized and dazzled by this display. Surely the Gods were at work and Jdj fell to his knees in the humblest of bows.....
Shadea` spoke to Jdj....."You have been kind to a stranger, when I am certain everyone else who passed me by left me for dead. I......owe you my life..I offer myself to you as your assistant in your service to Pharoah and his subjects." "In my hand are four Amulets....The first I give to you Jdj, to help you cure diseases and ailments known and unknown in this land...and with my help we shall help many....The second I give to you as a means to transport your self to the home of "Hermes Trimegestus" He will be your consultant, and complete your knowledge and training in the physical and metaphysical science of medicine. The third I give you, to give as a gift to Pharoah, as he is favored in the eyes of the the living gods. The fourth I keep and place it within myself. It is my lifeforce reborn, thanks to your kindness......Jdj was overwhelmed with delight and joyous in having a sorceress as his new friend and assistant....Shadea` waved both of her hands and in a instant Jdj also wore rainments of the finest silks, light blue, in color, and on his feet, were new sandals adorned in lapis lazuli, and thick soft new leather....around his neck were the three Amulets, glowing and twinkling.....Jdj spoke to Shadea`...."Come my friend...let us be on our way to Alexandria...where much work and new adventures await......and as we travel....let us drink from this vat of wine I have been saving for a special occasion....and may the gods continue to smile on us".....New found friends Jdj, and Shadea` walked...winking blinking, twinkling, and drinking.......
