Plato
Plato (c.428-347 BC) is the best known of the ancient Greek philosophers. He was born into a well-to-do noble family in Athens and probably would have gone into politics if not influenced by the philosopher Socrates. He founded his Academy, which is considered by many to be the first university.
Plato lectured and wrote on many topics, including politics, ethics, metaphysics, and epistemology. He believed that things were less real and important than ideas, since ideas are unchanging and physical things change all the time.
