Aha, or Hor-Aha, is considered to be the first Pharaoh of the first dynasty of ancient Egypt, although some kings' lists will place Narmer as first of this dynasty, rather than as a king of Dynasty 0.
It is likely that Aha was the son of King Narmer and Queen Nithotep, and that he inherited an essentially united kingdom of Upper and Lower Egypt.
It is known that he suppressed rebels in Nubia, and that he created a temple to Neith at the Delta city of Sais. He founded the capital city of Memphis, a city which survived the entire history of ancient Egypt. A dam needed to be constructed to divert waters for purposes of city building - which indicates there were political reasons for constructing it where he did.
The ancient historian Manetho states that Aha ruled 62 years, and died when carried off by a hippopotamus.
