Dynasty 25 is known as the Nubian or Kushite dynasty, and comprised five rulers. The fourth of these was Taharqa.
Taharqa gained the throne on his brother's death in 690 BCE. He also inherited struggles with the expanding Assyrian empire, but his first few years as pharaoh were peaceful, due to internal Assyrian problems.
Taharqa instituted a building spree during peacetime. He worked on the the temple of Amun at Karnak, and was active with such activities throughout Egypt and Nubia. He returned to use an abandoned temple to Amun that dated to Amenhotep III, at Kawa.
Assyrian warfare, however, returned. In 671 BCE, the Assyrians captured Memphis, with the then-resident Taharqa escaping. He eventually reclaimed the city, only to lose it again, to retire to the capital of Napata, south of Aswan.
Although he died in 664 BCE, his cousin and successor, Tanutamun, managed to reclaim Memphis and other delta lands for a time.
