Contest of Rome
1st Annual Consul, Emperor, or Not? Final Judging: Dec 26, 2006 - 00:00 est.
Historical Contest
This is cool!
( * Marcus Antonius - Dec 27, 2006 - 13:40 )
LOL - first contest I've ever entered and I actually win cold, hard cash. I guess that says that there's an economic purpose to playing around in history. Thanks for the hard work of putting it together.
Congratulations to the Winners ...
( * Varius Cicero - Dec 26, 2006 - 22:36 )
... and if you click on your winning place, you'll notice a small building denoting your win status -- Casa, Domus, or Villa. Enjoy your new-found wealth and a home to store it in.... HAPPY SATURNALIA 2006!!!
30-minutes Left to Submit

EXTENSION to 26 DEC 06
( * Varius Cicero - Dec 20, 2006 - 11:50 )
Due to the fact many have yet to submit any answers, I have extended the deadline for judging to the day after Xmas, which some refer to as Boxing Day.
The Contest is ON

Graphics & Plaques
( * Varius Cicero - Dec 18, 2006 - 14:04 )
Don't worry. They're coming. A variation on the graphic you've been looking at these past few days -- the view of the forum. Stuff will adorn the right-hand side relative to which award it is.
Meaning: "Or Not"
( * Varius Cicero - Dec 16, 2006 - 12:37 )
Thanks to Senex Caecilius for pointing this out to me (while also supplying several questions). There were actually three "generations" of government in Rome: Monarchy, Consul, and Emperor. So... making things a bit more difficult for you, the "Or Not" refers not only to false statements, but to monarchial timeframes for some of the questions. (Which means there are more than 3 questions in the "Or Not" category.
As creator of this quiz ...
( * Varius Cicero - Dec 8, 2006 - 18:16 )
...I'd like to thank all who have signed up (and those who will) to what I'd like to see as an annual event. Essentially a trivia contest, the 15 questions may require some research as I've written many in a humorous way to throw you off a bit.Once the contest starts, I let it run until the last day before looking at the results. Makes things more fair for those playing after work or from various world locales.
CONTEST DESCRIPTION AND RULES: Consul, Emperor, or Not? All statements are true save for three that are not. No dates can be given as that would be telling. At the time in history (or not) described, was the first man in Rome a Consul, Emperor, or Not (that is, either Monarchy or the statement isn't true). Prize money covers the cost of a Villae, Domus, and Casae without cutting into your current sestertii count. Hopefully, you’ll choose somewhere in Rome or a Roman province to honor your win! The official contest thread can be found here:1st Place = 1,500 st + 7500 for a Villae =9,000 st 2nd Place = 1,000 st + 2500 for a Domus =3,500 st 3rd Place = 500 st + 500 for a Casae =1,000 st |
