The Praefectus to the Distinguished Visitor, Salve !

Seleucia Pieria is happy to welcome you to its territories. The main, though by no means unique asset of this city is the business generated by the exchange of goods between East and West. The demands of the Romans grow each day. Merchants from every country will find more than enough markets for all their wares right here between our city walls.

If you are considering establishing yourself in Seleucia Pieria, the easiest and most obvious procedure is to purchase a plot of land - casa, domus, or villa according to your means - and then develop it. There are, however, alternatives.

If you are unable to purchase new land or hesitate to do so in Seleucia Pieria, it is still possible to participate in the community’s every-day life.

  • Threads for Creating New Activities
An existing property may actually depend on members’ participation for its activities. Participation occurs through the creation of new threads in that property. The Port of Seleucia Pieria, for example, is meant to accomodate ships belonging to as many members as wish to own and operate a maritime vessel ; see here for an example. If you are unable to open a new thread yourself, simply ask the property’s steward or another AW member with Patron status to do it for you.

  • Threads for Participating in Activities
In many AW properties, threads are created for the purpose of solliciting visitors’ comments - the Guestbook function. But threads may also allow members to participate in the daily life of the host property. The Port of Seleucia Pieria again offers such an example. In the Customs Inspection thread, any AW member may exchange news or information on merchandise by filing a professio (customs declaration), or by discussing items that a member has declared upon entering the Port, as suggested in this post.

As the city grows with additional venues, we hope to be able to point out other examples of how members are taking part in the social and professional life of Seleucia Pieria.

Valeas qui Seleuciam diliges !
