The family name MacUaid descends from one of the nine clans of the Oirgialla, after the Norman invasion most likely. Their earliest ancestor was a chieftain, MacBhuidhe. Presumably he would be a man, Uaid MacBhuidhe. Starting in Monaghan, septs later migrated to Longford and eventually North America.
