The Isle of Chios is one of the most beautiful islands of the Aegean. Here, the green of the trees and the aquamarine of the sea are within kissing distance, while fertile valleys embrace pretty towns perfumed with the scent of mastic from the countless mastic-trees. The millennia-old history of the Island disappears into the recesses of mythology amid the grace, and the grandeur, of old stone houses displaying ornaments and antique trimmings manufactured by the artists of Antiquity. From its pearl-like beaches to its enchanting alpine scenery, Chios embraces charming little villages which remain unchanged.

Hilltops, Cliffs and Caves of Chios (29 posts)
While the hilltops are home to many on the Island, the nearby cliffs and hidden caves serve as havens for people in Christian Chios who remember the Ancient Religions. These rugged rocks serve as Sanctuary’s for the secret practice of the Old Ways, and hideouts for those who are … well, hiding from something. Or someone ...

48 nautical miles northwest of Chios there are seven “islets” -

Their remote location, combined with their rugged landscape, make the islets inadequate for cultivation - but create a hidden haven for pirates refitting their ships … and hiding their bounty …

Where the shore meets the Sea - and where many citizens of Chios work, and gather. And where those who wish to arrive in Chios with little fanfare (or without detection) can anchor (and hide!) their boat without being seen by others. Well, they can
usually go unseen – but, sometimes, others are near the shore. Or hiding themselves…

28 Km from the Town of Chios, the village of Kardamyla is located at the northeastern edge of the Island. Separated into two sections, the upper portion of the village rests at the base of a steep hill, while the lower portion, 2 Km from the upper village, hugs a bay that’s protected by a tiny Island (
Nisi) which sits at the entrance to the harbor.

A cluster of five islands, nine nautical miles off the northeast coast of

Inoussa. Here, vineyards yield grapes for the Islands (and Islanders!)
oinos (wine), villages hug the sides of hills, and winding streets, paved with stone slabs, lead to the beautiful coastline.
